In gratitude for the inherent generosity of artists, Camp Street Studios embraces the spirit of reciprocity and fosters an affordable, sustainable, workspace in a historic building in downtown New Orleans. Through exhibition opportunities, open studios, direct links to patronage, and community engagement we support and honor the development of artistic expression.

Camp Street Studios was established in 2022 by New Orleans-based artists and co-founders Sara Madandar, Tom Walton, Nurhan Gotkurk, Cristina Molina, and Ryn Wilson. The building, located at 822 Camp St., was built in 1853. It is a historic building designed by renowned Louisiana architect Henry Howard. Howard’s genius is shown through his use of space and interior planning. As is the case at Camp St. Studios, Howard liked to keep houses as open as possible. He cared about the humane dimensions of his art, designing them from the inside out. His buildings were always comfortable to be in, no matter the size. This historic office building has been transformed to an inviting gallery with many studio spaces.

As they finished their residency program at Joan Mitchell Center, this group of five artists found this historic building to continue their artistic practices. They moved into the studio and exhibited their first show in January, 2023. Currently, Camp St. Studios has sixteen studios and hosts thirteen artists in the building.
